Thai football champs to be thanked with best gift of all – cash

How do you thank national football heroes who delivered a bounty of pride by winning a coveted title? You give them the finest gift of all: cold, hard cash.

Thailand’s national football team will receive a total of THB33 million from various supporters for bringing the Suzuki Cup back to Thailand after seeking it for 12 years.

Apart from the THB6.4 million rewarded for winning the AFF Suzuki Cup, the Football Association of Thailand said it will also give THB11.6 million for the accumulated points the team has collected throughout the championship while Lohtong Holding Co., Ltd. will give THB7 million.

Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Tourism and Sports Minister, revealed that the ministry had already approved THB7 million as a special reward for the team – THB200,000 for each player. The staff and coach team will receive 7 percent of the reward.

It is reported that Siam Paragon, one of the biggest shopping malls in Bangkok, will also grant another THB1 million to the team.

The AFF Suzuki Cup 2014 winners arrived at Don Muang Airport on Sunday afternoon with the coveted trophy where they were greeted by thousands of ecstatic fans.

The Thai football team defeated Malaysia with a 4-3 aggregate goal although it lost 2-3 in Saturday’s final match.
