Everything you wanted to know about elephant sex but were afraid to ask (VIDEO)

Nothing makes elephants feel friskier than some winter weather, and this year has been especially cool.

The magic of elephant mating season has become an object of intense interest this past week, as horny, sexually frustrated elephants have been attacking and sexually assaulting vehicles driving through Khao Yai National Park.

Mahouts in Surin province say the cooler-than-average weather this year has made their elephants hungrier and hornier, creating an opportunity for them to match and mate their elephants. There’s big costs associated, but even bigger profits to be made.

As temperatures have fallen to a breezy 15C, the mahouts said their elephants get cold, and fortunately for them, mating season provides a great activity for keeping warm.

The elephants allowed for mating must be over 10 years old. Mahouts of male and female elephants bring them together for a single hook-up.

The elephant sex is supervised closely to make sure the male doesn’t take too long and successfully delivers his semen into the female before pulling away. In a video documenting such a breeding, a mahout is seen giving very hands-on guidance to the massive, writing elephant penis. We hope his hands were warm.

Owning a bull elephant isn’t a bad deal: You get paid twice, AND your elephant gets laid.

Traditionally, the cow’s mahout has to pay for the bull to deliver his product. After the cow is pregnant with a very valuable elephant fetus, her mahout has to give a bundle of cash to her erstwhile boyfriend’s mahout as a kind of profit-sharing. The price can run as high as THB50,00 to 100,000.
