A beloved, stray dog called “Silly” by locals died at an animal hospital Wednesday after she was shot by a passing motorist in front of her regular hangout spot at Big C Lat Phrao.
Activist Kannilar Mephan shared footage of an unidentified driver opened the door to shoot Silly early Wednesday morning after a pack of stray dogs chased after the car.
The bullet reportedly struck her chest and went through her back. Silly’s death was a slow one. She was taken to Kaset Animal Hospital by merchants at the mall, who collected over THB10,000 for her vet bills, but doctors couldn’t rescue the poor stray.
Kannikar, who knew Silly as she lives in the area, wrote on Facebook she will file a police report to find the driver, as the person could face a jail term under the new animal cruelty law.
A funeral for Silly was held yesterday at Bang Bua Temple, funded by The Voice Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps animals.
