Listen Up: Belle & Sebastian, Temples, Thurston Moore and more

Maybe it was all canceled concerts of the year past, but when word spread Friday of an incredible line-up of bands coming to Bangkok, many refused to believe it.

Yet individual bands continue to confirm, so we can dare to believe that next month Bangkok will see acts by Temples, Belle and Sebastian, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, Real Estate, Caribou and others at The Hostess Club Weekender, a series of weekend minifests coming to Bangkok for the first time at GMM Live.

Tickets are THB1,000 per day or 1,800 for both days. They’ll go on sale online starting at 10am on Jan. 30.

Some acts currently touring with Hostess, such as St. Vincent, appear to be skipping the Bangkok date.

Temples has only released one LP, 2014’s “Sun Structures,” but already garnered praise for anachronistic reanimation of their grandparents’ psychedelic sensibilities.

Many Scots make very nice music as Belle and Sebastian, a band founded nearly two decades ago in Glasgow. They’ve produced nine poppish albums since.

The Thurston Moore Band’s eponymous front man is best known for the grungy-punk and recalibrated guitarwork of Sonic Youth, which made them icons of what was called “alternative rock” in the early ‘90s with albums such as “Goo” and “Dirty.”
