Dear Ichitan: Nobody wants your green tea in their big life moment

Graduating students from Chiang Mai University are upset their commencement photos were ruined by crass product placement.

Students said it was impossible to take any photos without being photo-bombed by three enormous, inflated bottles of Ichitan tea towering over a field of flowers at the university this week.

“All of the graduates said if they wanted the flowers in their photos, they got the green tea in their photos too,” said a former student who sparked the discussion on Pantip.

The commencement rehearsal, an important day for students and their families, was held Monday through Wednesday.

“The commencement is a good memory. It’s one of a beautiful moments you take photos with your family and classmates,” she wrote, “It’s also the time of year when flowers are blossoming atop Doi Suthep in the background.”

Some students pushed back against commercialism gone too far.

“Is this too much? How could you let your marketing ruin their memory?”

The consensus of the internet? Clear the vista and punish the brand’s marketing fail with some sharpened nails.
