Taxis refusing Japanese fares could lose licenses

The taxi community has distanced itself from drivers refusing service to Japanese passengers as transportation officials have threatened to pull the licenses of any drivers who do so.

Sadis Jaitiang, head of the Thai Taxi Driver Community for Suvarnabhumi Airport said they had nothing to do with at least one taxi driver advertising he will not take Japanese fares in retaliation to a rant from a Japanese man that led to another driver’s being banned from the airport.

Sadis said his group was not responsible for a window sign which announced it would not take Japanese customers which was signed “From the Thai Taxi Driver Community for Suvarnabhumi Airport.”

Suvarnabhumi Airport director Prapon Pattanakijsakul, said yesterday the airport hasn’t seen the taxi in question, Khaosod reported.

Sukree Charupoom of the Land Transport Department said anyone who sees the sign or encounters any driver refusing fares should immediately call 1584 to lodge complaints.

Meanwhile the man who aired his airport taxi grievances, which went viral as they were also written in Thai, told Bangkok Post he was sad the driver who demanded a THB700 fare instead of using the meter was punished.

Turns out the man known as Koki Aki roams Thailand dressed in cosplay teaching good manners to Thai children. The story notes that he dresses in traditional Japanese garb while doing this, as he had to stop wearing superhero costumes due to copyright problems.

He’s wandering Bangkok this month teaching good manners to “slum kids” in different parts of the capital.
