Transport ministry to decide on airport taxi surcharges

Transportation officials are listening to complaints and suggestions by airport taxi drivers but have yet to agree to take any action.

After a meeting between the officials and airport taxi drivers yesterday yielded no agreement, Transport Minister Prajin Juntong said they’ll meet again next week and decide what, if any action to take.

On the table are requests by taxi drivers to increase the THB50 surcharge currently collected and charge passengers for additional luggage.

Prajin said Airports of Thailand Pcl and the Department of Land Transport would create a joint committee to study the issue and look for solutions.

He acknowledged there are “different break-even points” between regular taxis and van-taxis, and promised to consider the issue fairly, according to a state media report.
