Soldier jailed for beheading cat

A soldier who cut off a cat’s head and posted photos of his cruelty this morning was punished within hours by his commanders after animal activists and the online community brought attention to the incident.

The horrid photo of the cat lying on the ground with a long, ugly blade between its neck and severed head was picked up by several media outlets this morning prompting the Royal Thai Army to discipline Lance Cpl. Sibtit Autkaew, who had posted the photo.

“You dared poop on my bed?” the caption read.

Animal welfare group Watchdog Thailand said it received a statement from the army that Sibtit was temporarily thrown in the brig at Phraya Pichai Dap Hak Military Camp in Uttaradit province.

Netizens were not satisfied however and requested that authorities prosecute Sibtit under the new animal cruelty law, under which he could face for two-year jail term and fine of THB40,000.
