Rate your taxi: Gov issues bilingual app

Transportation officials have released a smartphone app for passengers to provide feedback on taxi service.

The “DLT Check-in” app, available for Android and iOS, is being presented as a direct means of providing feedback on the capital’s legion taxi drivers with real consequences based on that feedback. It works in both Thai and English.

According to Chirute Visalachitra of the Department of Land Transport, users can give feedback on their satisfaction by either putting in the taxi’s number or sending in a photo record. The assessment will be kept confidential.

Information sent by the application will help the department screen taxis offering “below-standard service” and “motivate drivers to maintain their service to a standardized level.”

According to a report in state media, taxi companies with low marks will be unable to expand their fleets while individually licensed drivers “will be prosecuted strictly.”

On the upside, taxi drivers who get high marks will receive a certificate to display.
