The body of a British man was found floating off of Koh Hae (Coral Island) on Monday afternoon. It is believed the man had a lot to drink the night before and he wandered into the sea.
Phuket police were called to investigate the death after a tour boat called and reported they had found a body floating at Koh Hae Monday at 1:30pm.
Rescue workers took a speedboat to the island to retrieve the body and transported it back to Vachira Hospital
The victim, later identified as Sebastian Palin, 32, was 170 centimetres tall and dressed in a white vest and colourful Bermuda shorts. He also had two wristbands on his left wrist.
Police said he had been dead for at least 12 hours. Officers have ruled out foul play as they believe Palin drowned.
Police later learned that Palin had checked in at the Coral Island Resort on Saturday and was scheduled to check out Tuesday morning.
On Sunday night, it is alleged that Palin got very drunk at the hotel bar. Staff tried to escort him to his room, but he yelled at them and said he wanted to continue drinking.
“He drank until the bar closed and seemed stressed,” a member of the bar staff told police.
After the bar closed no one saw or heard from Palin again until they were notified of the body floating in the sea.
Police are currently gathering more information.
