Potty Crisis: White Temple to build Chinese-only toilets

The artist behind Chiang Rai’s famous Wat Rong Khun, aka the White Temple, said it will build separate facilities for Chinese visitors because their toilet behavior should not be suffered by anyone else.

National artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, who’s made construction of the unusual temple his life’s work, said he would build special toilets for Chinese guests because they had left them “impossible” for others to use.

“They had defecated on the floor, urinated on the walls outside and left sanitary pads on the wall of the bathrooms,” said another temple official who was not named in a DPA report.

Last month an incident of unspecified, unsavory toilet behavior in the temple’s “Golden Toilet” blamed on a tourist prompted  Chalermchai to briefly ban Chinese visitors outright from his temple, but said he was moved by all the other arriving tourists to relent on the ban after a half day.
