Thai cyclists raise money for slain Chilean’s family

On online community of Thai cyclists has raised money for the family of a Chilean round-the-world cyclist killed by a reckless driver last month in Thailand.

Cyclists on ThaiMTB.com announced they’ve collected THB14,300 from 29 donators to give to the family of Juan Francisco Guillermo, 47, who was killed Feb. 21 by a truck driver who left his lane on a road in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

Guillermo, who was more than four years into a five-year trip cycling the world, was killed while his wife Ng-Poh Leng rode nearby with their 2-year-old son on another bicycle.

The discussion thread seems to have originally been posted for another purpose three years ago, creating the false impression they’d raised THB85,000 for the family.

The truck driver who hit and killed him was charged with reckless driving resulting in death before being released on bail.

Guillermo’s funeral was being planned for at a temple in Khon Kaen.
