Thai economy ‘happiest’ in the world

Thailand’s economic vigor may be slipping away, but by some measures, it’s one of the world’s least miserable.

Thailand has the world’s happiest economy based on key indicators such as inflation and unemployment, according to economists.

Thailand was found to have a score of only 1.6 in Bloomberg’s “misery index,” due to unusually low inflation and unemployment rates of less than 1 percent. Just step across the southern border into Malaysia, however, and one would go from the happiest to the No. 2 most miserable economy in the world, according to the report.

However Bloomberg still recommends folks seeking optimal happiness go to No. 2 Switzerland, as the kingdom is living under martial law and has a long way to go before before it reaches the standard of living enjoyed in developed countries.

Asian neighbors Japan and Taiwan also ranked high on the list placing third and fifth respectively.
