Elections 6 months after new constitution, drafters say

General elections will take place within six months after the new constitution goes into effect, according to its draftsmen.

A spokesman for the junta-appointed committee made the announcement yesterday, saying the most recent in a long line of documents setting out the kingdom’s fundamental legal principles will include 315 articles.

Given the timelines it contains regarding elections, Kamnoon Sidhisamarn said general elections of MPs would have to happen within 180 days, while whatever process they arrive upon for the senate could wait eight months.
