All Chao Phraya piers to be rebuilt

Enjoy the creaky old boat piers lining the Chao Phraya while you can.

All public piers along the river in Bangkok and surrounding provinces will be rebuilt to ensure commuters’ safety.

All 17 piers will be upgraded into boat stops with new facilities. Disabled travelers will benefit as the new piers they’ll be more accessible to wheelchair users, according to Chula Sukhamanop of the Marine Department.

The busy piers at Pinklao, Saphan Taksin and Nonthaburi will be the first to get a makeover. The department expects to spend THB70 million to rebuild the 17 piers.

At least eight piers are expected to finished this year, according to state media.
