Thailand to produce ‘good manners’ training video for Chinese guests

Tourism officials announced they will produce an instructional video to school Chinese tourists on how to behave while vacationing in the Land of Smiles.

Said to have been inspired by Chinese women who stripped naked in a public restroom, the video is the latest attempt to respond to unease over tourist behavior with some helpful educational materials on Thai norms.

The animated video of dos-and-don’ts, which will be narrated in Chinese, follows last month’s incident when a number of Chinese women flashed their private parts in the ladies room at Don Muang Airport, freaking the hell out of locals, one of which decided it was okay to take photos.

The two-minute-long video will be posted on travel blogs and tourism websites. One of the “dos” is “keep your clothes on,” according to Daily Mail.

Although image-sensitive China is aware of the issue and has recently issued its own instructional guide for traveling abroad, Anek Srichiwachat, head of the Thai Travel Agents Association thinks it hasn’t been disseminated widely enough.

“The Chinese government has made a campaign telling its citizens how to behave when travelling abroad,” Anek said. “The campaign might reach only the big cities.  As the host, we should just nicely warn them.”

Anek added we should get over the naked Chinese incident already.

“We should not berate them by sharing the photo,” he said.
