The Ministry of Culture stepped in to address the trend of underboob selfies this morning by threatening to arrest the women taking them.
The same people who prosecuted three girls for dancing topless during Songkran in 2011 before quietly removing similar imagery from its web site has warned Thai ladies to refrain from the “Western” underboob selfie trend because the boobs are considered their “private parts,” and whoever exposes them are breaking the law, Morning News reported.
Yupa Taweewattanakijbaworn, Director of Culture Surveillance Bureau, warned that publicizing “obscene” photos can result in a three-year jail term and/or fine of up to THB6,000, according to Lawyer Thai.
“The Spirit of Songkran” once welcomed visitors to the Ministry of Culture’s home page before it was quietly removed three years ago following a culture minister’s prosecution of three girls for dancing topless on Silom Road. Photo: Ministry of Culture
