Fake cops busted for preying on migrant workers

A group of men posing as police officers for a con that seemed torn from the headlines have been busted by the real police.

Four men are accused of stopping immigrant workers in the Thai capital and subjecting them to drug tests before demanding money to release them, according to a metropolitan police commander.

“They liked to prey on alien workers because it’s easy for them to use the pretense of ID cards or drug checks,” police Maj. Gen. Sriwarah Rangsiphramanakul said a report from Khaosod English.

Nearly 20 complaints have been made over the scam since the beginning of this month, and the men are also accused of raping a teen girl.

All four have been hit with charges including impersonation of police, illegal detention, abduction of a minor for sexual abuse, robbery and conspiracy to rape.
