Whatever you thought of longtime nightlife institution Bed Supperclub, it had a pretty cool structure.
If you’ve missed its shapely, sci-fi shell then head a block over to Soi Sukhumvit 13, where it’s currently being pieced back together nearly two years after Bed closed in 2013.
“I figured since the former owners of Bed Supperclub were dear friends, when they asked me to MC the closing of Bed, that’s when I figured, ‘Holy shit! Wouldn’t it be great to take on the original (structure), disassemble it, relocate it and make it into something new,” explained Daryl Scott, the nightclub designer resurrecting the former club’s edifice for the forthcoming “Chi Ultralounge.”

While the familiar extraterrestrial shape will be visible, the inside will be all new, Scott said. One reason is to satisfy his gonzo design ambitions for an “ultralounge” where three-dimensional geishas loom over the diners carousing in some swankified digs. Also, Scott admits, Bangkok’s building code enforcement is much different than it was a dozen years back.
“Nothing is gonna look like Bed. It’s bigger, badder, safer; it’s going to be incredible!” vowed the effusive designer behind a slew of clubs including Mystique and Bash.
The dinner scene will happen from 7:30pm to 10pm, with the nightclub going into action by 11pm.
But will the music be any good? That is, will Bangkok’s night scene have yet another overpriced joint to gyrate to cheeky EDM remixes of pre-shaved Britney Spears?
Scott promises that won’t be the case, and revelers should instead expect some “proper house, deep house, funky stuff.” Maybe a rock night; maybe a straight-up punk night.
He’s got time to figure it out: Chi Ultralounge plans to open in June.
