Historic river fort to host family-friendly Songkran Festival

Celebrate Songkran in a historic setting just across the river at a family-friendly event in Samut Prakan.

Provincial officials will hold the event at the site of the riverside Phlaeng Faifaa Fort next month to “emphasize Thai traditions and cultural uniqueness” with a beauty contest and children’s games.

Check out the would-be Miss Songkrans on April 17 and learn how to play traditional and descriptively named games such as “Snake eats the tail,” “Hide the Cloth Behind your Back,” and “Catching the Last One in the Line of People.”

There will also be special performances and demonstrations showing the making of traditional sweets such as kalamae, or Thai Caramel.

The event will conclude with merit making and traditional observances of elder respect on April 19.

The Phlaeng Faifaa Fort is located next to the Pom Plaeng Faifa School in Samut Prakan province.
