Awesome vintage Thai advertisements from the past (PHOTOS)

When Mae Khong whiskey had to battle with Poh Khong and no one blinked at the abject racism of “Darkie” toothpaste, these were ads people saw every day.

Coming back from decades ago, these images of vintage ads were shared on the popular Postjung forum last night. Thought we’d share them all with you, as they say something about the values, technology and priorities of the time, when products were vying for market share amid increasingly Western tastes.

Omo washing powder (1959)

“It’s here! New blue Omo. It’s different because it’s blue!”

Kotex (1960)

“Sanitary pads are convenient, comfortable and safe.”

Red Bull (Undated and possibly fake)

“Mix Red Bull with 35 degree liquor to save money! It tastes just like whiskey.”

Darkie toothpaste (1951)

“DARKIE. Nice smell. Many bubbles. Kills all types of bacteria.”

Pepsi (1954)

“Trust us … in quality and quantity”

Johnnie Walker (1939)

“Johnnie Walker Whiskey. Drink it to cease sadness and build a healthy mind and body.”

Golden Kite and Singha beer (1936)

“This beer is brewed in the capital. No chemicals, unlike the imported beer. Thai beer is popular.

Poh Khong whiskey

“Drink it for a great mood. Nice taste. Good smell. Cures fatigue. Cheap. Suitable for all social classes.”
