The Thai saying “No one is too old to study,” applies well to 82-year-old Sathaporn Promsri, who could be the oldest student to ever attend classes at Ratjabhat University Chiang Mai.
Sathaporn recently began working on a bachelor’s degree in Community Development after her education was interrupted by World War II.
“I want to earn some academic knowledge after graduating from life’s street knowledge. If I graduate,” Sathaporn said. “The degree will be the prize of my life.”
Sathaporn said after the war, she got married and started a family instead of going to university.
Many universities admired Sathaporn’s ambition and offered to bestow an honorary doctorate on the grandma, but Sathaporn turned them down, insisting she wants to earn the degree herself.
Sathaporn expects to graduate in 2017, MCOT reported.
