A man seen beating his toddler stepson in CCTV footage which upset many after it spread online was arrested yesterday after the child died.
Anon Pimnoo, 29, confessed to police he beat his 2-year-old stepson in the stairwell of their apartment in Bangkok’s Khlong Sam Wa district on Thursday, an incident later passed around and condemned online.
In the miserable footage, Anon holds the boy on the ground and hits his head before picking him up and tossing him onto the ground.
After apparently realizing the toddler was seriously injured, Anon carried him back into the room and told his wife the boy fell down the stairs.
The boy’s aunt, who discovered the injuries, admitted the toddler to the hospital where doctors did not believe the falling story and advised the family to file a police report. The boy lay in a coma for two days and died on Saturday.
Anon was arrested yesterday while on the run in his hometown in Kamphaeng Phet province. He said he hurt the boy because he would not stop crying.
Anon could face three to 15 years in jail if convicted, Post Today and Thairath reported.
