Before the United States begins compiling its report on human trafficking next month, Thai authorities will announce Friday its campaign to rein it in.
With fresh human trafficking abuses reported regularly and anxiety over potential economic consequences to sanctions by the European Union, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said human trafficking will become a part of the “national agenda” starting Friday.
Notably in his comments in a state media report, Prawit acknowledged the perception of some in the international community that Thai officials may be complicit in trafficking activities.
Otherwise he said no, it really wasn’t the fault of the previous government, it just didn’t do anything and did “not scratch the right itch.”
