Thailand is the happiest country to be gay in East Asia

Thailand is the happiest country to be gay in East Asia and ranked 16th in the world, according to the recent “Gay Happiness Index” from dating service PlanetRomeo.

Based on a survey of 115,000 gay men worldwide, Netherlands-based PlanetRomeo said Thailand is in “green zone” of gay, scoring an average of 67 points out of 100 in terms of how positive society views and treats gay men, and how satisfied gay men are with their lives.

Thailand counted 1,549 participants in the survey, and is the only country in East Asia to be ranked in the top 20, followed by Taiwan (34) and Cambodia (35). Israel is ranked seventh making it the happiest country for gay men on the Asian continent.

Meanwhile, Iceland skates atop everyone as the happiest place to be gay, with Norway and Denmark coming second and third.

In the survey, the participants were asked if they felt discriminated, and 76 percent of gay men in Thailand said they faced no discrimination whatsoever at work or school while most ticked “very comfortable” with holding hands, kissing or approaching another man in public.
