“How to Win at Checkers (Every Time)” by Korean-American director Josh Kim is based on an acclaimed Thai novel.
Gay and lesbian films aren’t all heartbreaking tragedies or cowboys eating pudding, as Attitude Magazine will show with a series of inspiring and uplifting tales at the Bangkok Gay & Lesbian Film Festival.
The word is out, Bangkok is a pretty great place to be gay, so its only fitting the Thai capital welcome its first large-scale LGBT-empowered film fest to at Esplanade Cineplex Ratchadapisek next month.
The festival will open June 5 with “How to Win at Checkers (Every Time),” a story set in the fringes of Bangkok about two bond between two brothers facing social inequality and the annual military draft lottery. It’s based on the work of Thai novelist Rattawut Lapcharoensap and directed by Korean-American Josh Kim.
The program features will feature other films with positive messages among gay and lesbian films the world over. The full line-up and schedule are yet to be finalized but will be posted online when available
