US model in LA gets death threats from Thailand

Some tourists don’t even have to make it here to offend us.

American model and beauty YouTuber Kristen Leanne said she had to take Thailand off her holiday list after she got death threats from angry Buddhists for her latest bikini pic.

“It is a picture of a girl sitting on a statue in front of a day spa,” Kristen responded yesterday before deleting the photo from her Facebook after it went viral for unintended reasons.

In the photo, Kristen, 26 of Los Angeles, sits on a Buddha statue located at an American spa and not associated with Thailand in any way. Regardless, it managed to realm-hop to the Thai social network and drew a swift response from Thai netizens, including some death threats.

“You’re not kidding. I took Thailand off my list for a while. I got a lot of mutilated body pics sent my way with my head Photoshopped on them. Rough,” she wrote.

While Westerners may think the statue adds some cool to Leanne’s hotness, some Buddhists see it as yet another photo of a Westerner disrespecting a sacred icon of their religion and their feelings … again.

Some could even compare this reaction to foreigners’ outrage over incidents of “Hitler chic” here in Thailand. But we digress.

“You can make it mean whatever you want it to mean,” Kristen said. “I am not a philosopher or a theologist, but I’m going to go out on a limb, and say the path to nirvana and non-harmful living doesn’t involve graphic, violent threats directed towards a stranger you know nothing about.”

While we’re here, here’s some more photos of Kristen for more comprehensive reportage.
