Kanchanaburi Scores Major Cool Points with X2 River Kwai

Presented by

In a place as rustic and natural as Kanchanaburi, you’d think your food and drink options would be limited to local fare and Thai brews. While those things are plentiful, there’s another exciting dining destination in the area. The uber hip X2 River Kwai is offering Kanchanaburi travelers a chic spot to eat and drink in the rural region with The Bridge Bar & Bistro.

With one of the best spots on the river, The Bridge Bar & Bistro fittingly boasts tons of windows for the ultimate Kwai Noi views.

Located on the peaceful Kwai Noi River just a few hours outside of Bangkok, X2 River Kwai is one of Asia’s leading design hotels and really your only option for accommodations in the area if you’re a design lover.

Created by the architects and interior designers at Agaligo Studio, the minimalist rooms are set in shipping crate-like structures that offer front row seats to picture-perfect river views. The rooms play with a range of natural and modern textures; rough stone and unfinished wood play off of industrial touches like mirrors and frameless glass.

Cabana for two and a cocktail, please

Just like the rooms, The Bridge Bar & Bistro is pretty damn cool. It was created with the image of an old railway station in mind. The architects took advantage of the hotel’s primo location by building an outdoor terrace for guests to post up on. We’re fans of sipping Champagne there to watch the sun set over the river. Not bad.

It’s kind of amazing what you can find at the bistro considering how the place is surrounded by scenic rice paddies, temples, and sugar cane farms. The bistro offers a range of Thai and Western revamped comfort foods.

For breakfast, there are New York City staples like cold brew coffee and French toast. Later in the day, you can feast on Thai classics with local delicacies like river prawn or go international with steak. For dessert, sip on an oreo milkshake or dig into an apple crumble a la mode.

After your meal, you’re close to a lot of the area’s top sites like Erawan National Park, the Bridge over the River Kwai, a tiger temple, the Chongkai War cemetery, Sai Yok waterfalls and more. The region is teeming with spots for history buffs, like the Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum and the Prasat Mueang Singh Historical Park. Or you can just chill by the sleek pool.
