A Kuwaiti man died yesterday while bungee-jumping in Phuket after the ankle straps he was wearing came off, Eakkapop Thongtub writes in The Phuket News.

The tourist, whose name has been withheld until his family is notified, broke his neck and several ribs in the fall, and died shortly after he arrived at the Patong beach hospital.

Witnesses told police the victim jumped from the platform at World Bungee Jump, the highest of its type in Southern Thailand, but after he rebounded from the bottom from his dive, the ankle straps came off. He crashed into the ground next to a lake under the platform.

Police are currently investigating whether the incident was caused by faulty equipment or was just a tragic accident. World Bungee Jump will remain close until the investigation is complete.
