Triam Udom Pattanakarn director suspended after student uprising

The head of a prestigious school in northern Bangkok was suspended from his job after students and teachers gathered to call for his removal yesterday.

Sathorn Sombun, school director of Triam Udom Suksa Pattanakarn School, faced complaints of financial mismanagement as more than 2,000 students and teachers gathered on the campus to protest a doubling in tuition to over THB4,000 and other mismanagement.

Two years ago students from another Pathum Thani school petitioned the former minister of educaiton to investigate mismanagement by Sathorn at the time, Bangkok Post reported.

Yesterday’s uprising against the director, who was appointed to his post one year ago, won a response from education officials.

After talking to stakeholders for several hours, the area education director announced Sathorn and his team would be removed while an investigation was conducted.
