Endangered baby clouded leopards born in Khao Kiew Zoo

The Khao Kheow Open Zoo showed off their month-old baby clouded leopards yesterday born through artificial insemination.

The zoo’s second attempt to increase the population of clouded leopard resulted in the two babies, one male and female each, born to mama cat “Krading” last month. The babies are very fluffy and healthy, according to Boriphat Siriarunrat, the projects head veterinarian.

He added the clouded leopard is one of the most difficult species to reproduce because the animals are often stressed, and males often hurt females during the intercourse.

Mixed feelings about zoos and conservation here, but the project was carried by the Chulalongkorn’s Faculty of Veterinary Science, Thailand Clouded Leopard Consortium and American institutes such as the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute & National Zoological Park.
