A memorable catfight helped whet Gossip Girlies’ appetites last night in the first official trailer for the Thai remake, which premieres next week.
The 30-second sneak peek of Gossip Girl Thailand released by Kantana Motion Pictures serviced hardcore fans by serving up a pastiche of memorable scenes from the first season of the original, such as the gym class clash between “Blair” and “Serena.”
In this case that would be Beatrice “Blair” Waranon (Carissa Springett) and Sarinya “Serena” van der Woodsen Wijitranukul (Sabina Meisinger).
Sure it looks like a knockoff, but with a Bangkok touch to it. The trailer attracted more than 50,000 viewers overnight.
Another brief glimpse appears to show Dan Humphrey (Dan Chanaseri here, played by Jarusak Weerakul) at what looks like a BTS station, but otherwise the sets seem to consist of five-star hotels and bars, the Hi-So Bangkok equivalent of the original’s Manhattan hot spots.
Nope, the trailer suggests the series doesn’t celebrate the locale with familiar sights and sounds of the Thai capital, nor does it pretend to.
The voice of Gossip Girl is performed by TV personality Opal Panisara, who, fans agree, would have sounded better here speaking Thai in her widely recognized voice rather than the English phrase in the trailer.
