Big Liz gets global love after tourist confuses it with dragon (VIDEO)

Everyone was excited by the sight of a small, slimy monster swimming in a Bangkok drain this week, but locals and tourists disagree on what the creature actually is.

Footage of a monitor lizard crawling inside a downtown sewer went viral the world over since being posted Monday and stirred up discussion in the Western world what this exotic little guy could be.

“Yep! I was outside of a temple in downtown Bangkok and people were screaming and pointing into the sewer. There it was. I got the video to prove it!” traveler John Hernandez wrote.

He originally identified the monster as Komodo Dragon, which can only be found on certain Indonesian islands.

While this might be a great nightmarish-yet-amazing-exotic-Thailand moment for Thai tourism, Bangkokians know running into a meter-long monitor lizard is just another day in the Big Mango.

The story was eventually picked up by a Time online writer yesterday who, whatever it was, said, “Still, that is one big nope!”
