Myanmar to go visa-free for Thais

Myanmar will soon be visa-free for Thais as the two governments are expected to sign an agreement to exempt visas for their citizens.

The visa exemption covers up to 14 days of travel and will be effective in September for air arrivals, while exemption at border crossings will go into effect early next year.

Currently, a Myanmar tourist visa for Thais costs from THB810 to 1,744.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Thanasak Patimaprakorn is tasked with signing the agreement.

Thailand and Myanmar were previously supposed to sign a visa exemption agreement during Yingluck Shinawatra’s visit to Yangon in November 2013, but the Thai Prime Minister cancelled the visit due to the anti-government protest, TTG Asia and Manager reported.
