Thailand’s music industry mourns death of Sqweez Animal guitarist ‘Singha’

Thailand’s music industry is mourning the death of 31-year-old Prachathip Musikapon, better known as “Singha,” the late guitarist of the band Sqweez Animal.

Artists such as Arak ‘Pae’ Amornsupasiri, Pongsit Kamphee and Jarinya ‘Kaew’ Sirimongkolsakul all issued statements expressing their condolences for the death of Singha, whose influential style was admired by many.

Musician and actor Arak “Pae” Amornsupasiri spoke to Coconuts about how widely Singha was loved.

“Everyone who knew him loved him. It’s hard to believe someone like him existed,” he said. “As a friend, he was the one who brought everyone together. He was generous and loved to help people. He was a true man. I hope he’s in a better place now.”

An emotional Pae said he was coming to terms with what Singha had done.

“The last thing you did … I believe you thought it was right for you, man.”

Tul Waitoonkiat, frontman of Apartment Khunpa told us that he worked with Singha for over 10 years and said his passing was a great loss to the music industry.

“He was a really great artist,” Tul Waitoonkiat said. “He really worked hard for his music career. He produced quality pop music and his style was so prominent. This is such a great loss for the music industry in Thailand.”

Mike Corde or “DJ Lows,” former bandmate and close friend of Singha as they worked on a project “The Indikator” together in Bangkok, said Singha will be missed, very much.

“He was a very kind and caring person. He was a family, a friend and a brother,” Mike Corde said. “Recording with him never felt like work. It was always fun. Anytime he entered the room, he made it a much a better place. We’re all going to miss him very much.”

Prachathip fell from the ninth floor of a condo in Thong Lor on Wednesday night.
