Woman on Full Moon Party trip killed by jellyfish

A 31-year-old Bangkok woman died from the jellyfish stings Friday on a trip to the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan in Surat Thani province.

Chaiyanun Surin, 31, went unconscious and died on the way to the hospital Friday evening after she was stung by the deadly box jellyfish at Rin Beach where the world famous Full Moon Party is held.

Chaiyanun and her three friends reportedly went for a swim around 7:40pm on Friday. At one point, Chaiyanun yelled out for help, saying she was stung by something and her skin was burning before she went unconscious.

Chaiyanun had just resigned from her job in Bangkok before deciding to travel to the Full Moon Party with her friends during the holiday.

Her friends were also stung by the animal which was determined later to be a box jellyfish.

Some species of box jellyfish are extremely deadly. It is commonly found in shallow water and vinegar is believed helpful for first aid.

Warning signs about box jellyfish and the vinegar treatment have been put up around the beach on Koh Pangan, Khaosod reported.
