MRTA seeks to expropriate land to build monorails

Construction on the planned monorail lines in Bangkok can’t start until a land expropriation decree has been issued by the cabinet, according to the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA).

The Transport Ministry must seek approval from the cabinet to issue an executive decree for the Yellow and Pink lines, said MRTA governor Peerayudh Singpatanakul. The MRTA hopes to gain approval sometime this year.

The land expropriation decree must be done before construction starts because technical studies need to be conducted, he said.

The MRTA board said all funds for both lines will come from the private sector.

The 35.5km Pink Line will go from Khae Rai to Min Buri and the 30.4km Yellow Line from Lat Phrao to Samrong, reported Thai Pbs.
