Bold student dominates university beauty pageant by keeping it real

A photo of a student nicknamed “Mew Lae Love” has become an overnight runaway success in a freshman beauty pageant contest held by Burapha University on Facebook.

While the other faculties submitted the fairest girls with obnoxious makeup for the popular vote contest, which is held on the university’s Facebook page, “Mew Lae Love” or Wannika Prasipan proudly represented the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts just the way she is.

She won almost 200,000 likes counting as votes within one day compared to the other submissions who got less than 50,000 votes.

“This is the one! This is the girl who doesn’t revolve around whitening, cuteness, and pretties. Take my vote!” one user wrote.

“You are the Mockingjay of this pageant! Take my vote,” another wrote, comparing the student to the badass female rebel leader in “The Hunger Games” book and movie series.

The freshmen pageant is a tradition most universities have adopted whereby each faculty is to send one male and female student to compete, mostly for looks. It’s refreshing to see the younger generation embracing being themselves and rejecting ridiculous beauty standards in Thailand these days.

Now everyone wants to be Mew Lae Love’s best friend, which is awesome.

Meanwhile, another underrated male contestant from the same faculty “Toom-toom-ta Toom-jo” is currently most popular in the male department and has received 56,00 votes so far.

No, those nicknames aren’t real.
