MMA fighters hit Bangkok hard at Full Metal Dojo 6 (PHOTOS)

Full Metal Dojo (FMD) hosted their 6th event on Saturday, Aug 22 at Insanity Nightclub, Sukhumvit soi 12, Bangkok.

It was FMD’s first event at Insanity Nightclub and a capacity crowd of Thai and foreign fight fans witnessed eight pro MMA fights and the crowning of FMD’s first ever champion. FMD’s champion didn’t receive the traditional belt used in boxing and most MMA promotions, but a Japanese katana sword.

The Bantamweight title bout saw two FMD fan favourites compete,  with Thailand’s National Wrestling Team member, Kritsada “Dream Man” Konsrichai from Chmuporn Wrestling, facing Detchadin “Phetsingkorn” Srosirisuphathin, from Bangkok’s Muay Chaiya gym. After some roundhouse kicks and sparring, Kritsada’s superior wrestling  skills earned him a successful takedown and he was able to get a full mount on his rival,  delivering some crushing elbows and opening up a huge gash on his forehead, forcing referee Olivier Coste to stop the action in the first round.

In the co-main event, teenage MMA sensation Pongsiri “Smiling Assassin” Mitsatit from Team Quest Thailand in Chiang Mai, extended his unbeaten record to 5-0 with a dominant win over Nattawut “Storm-Fist Wild Monkey” Promrit.

Perhaps the two most exciting fights of the night were two back-and-forth 3-round wars that went all the way to the judge’s scorecards. One saw Canadian fighter, Team Quest’s Scott “Handsome” Hudson, get the decision over AKA Thailand Phuket’s Russian fighter, Salim Mukhidinov, in a highly skilled match-up.

The previous fight saw Tiger Muay Thai Phuket’s former Rajadamnern Champion, Teerayut “Saksurin Tigermuaythai” Kawrat beat  Raw BJJ, Bangkok’s Veerayut “Hanuman” Uttapan.

Chamlong Charaem from Bangkok’s Shingi Dojo, cemented his position as one of Thai MMA’s hottest prospects, with a dominant win over Yodbungjong Fairtex from Fairtex Gym in Pattaya. Chamlong extended his unbeaten MMA record to 6-0 (pro & amateur), by out-boxing the Muay Thai veteran, and catching him with a KO punch to the chin after just two minutes.

Tanabadee “Ninjaman” Supparukephusakun fighting out of Maximum Gym Phuket got the better of Thossawat “Doze” Akkhanithin fighting out of Thanthorng Gym in Bangkok.

After some great stand-up combinations from both fighters, Egyptian Amr Elgohary, currently training in Sasiprapa Muay Thai, Bangkok, got a stunning KO over visiting German and former Management Consultant, Jan Steinbacher from FSS in Germany.

And the opening fight of the night saw Filipino Luke Moleno from the highly-regarded international Legacy Gym Ubon Ratchathani defeat Thai Jaktan Tangjan from Bangkok’s Muchzhima and Raw BJJ teams.

FMD founder Jon Nutt said: “”I couldn’t be more pleased with how this past FMD6 went overall. The growth of Thai MMA is happening rapidly and Full Metal Dojo is excited to be at the forefront in letting the world know that Thailand and Southeast Asia have some great up-and-coming talent.”

Jon Nutt confirmed their next event will be FMD7: Full Metal Massacre on Halloween Night, October 31st in Bangkok, and FMD8 would be on December 12th, in Tablespoons Restaurant at the front of Central Festival in Phuket.
