A 32-year-old man was handed over to Ang Thong police by an angry mob of villagers last night for attempting to rape an 81-year-old female next door neighbor.
The victim, Yom Klinpalat, 81, who was found with bruises on her face, reluctantly told police she was asleep when her neighbor Paitoon Pui-ngen broke into her home and attempted to rape her last night.
Yom tricked Paitoon by telling him to turn off the light before she took the opportunity to kick him and scream for help, but this enraged Paitoon and he beat her up.
Paitoon fled the scene when Yom’s neighbors arrived at her house. He was later caught and beaten up by an angry mob who then handed him over to police.
Paitoon was charged for intrusion, physical assault, sexual assault, and attempted rape.
Peerapan Jantien, commissioner of Wiset Chaichan police station, said Paitoon looks similar to the sketch of the rape-murder suspect who has raped at least 10 women and killed two senior women in the outskirts of Bangkok over the past five years.
Paitoon also admitted to working in Samut Songkhram and Samutsakorn provinces at the time of the rapes.
The sketch of the suspect was released in January after a 70-year-old woman reported a rape in Nakhon Pathom. He has never been caught.
Peerapan will work with other police departments to find out if Paitoon is the suspect they have been looking for, Manager reported.
