Cops arrest monks for meth

An abbot and two monks were arrested on Monday for reportedly taking drugs after a gang told police they sold yaba pills to monks at a Buddhist temple in Pak Tho district.

Residents close to the temple had also complained to police that monks were taking drugs.

Police searched the living quarters of 46-year-old abbot Phra Baideekawisan Jattapayo and found drug paraphernalia. Drug tests were performed on the abbot and 10 monks and novices at the temple, reported the Bangkok Post.

Phra Baideekawisan and two other monks, Phra Decha Promjit, 35, and Phra Jetsada Charngmai, 30, tested positive for methamphetamines and were taken into custody.
