Woman gets punched on MRT, tracks down witnesses on Pantip

A woman, who was allegedly punched and kicked by a male passenger on an MRT train, is using social media to try and track down evidence of the attack.

The thread on Pantip titled, “My female friend got punched on MRT,” has become the most discussed topic across the Thai realm of social media as more and more witnesses and photos turn up on the thread.

The thread, which was written by a friend of the victim who chose to remain anonymous, explains that at about 7:30am on Friday her friend was reportedly attacked for no reason.

“While my friend was entering the train, a man bumped into her at her side, so she avoided him.” the user said. “Then he started insulting her. She looked at him, and he said ‘What are you smiling at?’ The guy then pushed her and accused her of stepping on his feet. He beat her and then he hung onto a pole and tried to kick her!”

The victim got off the train at Samyan which was before her intended destination. Two other women accompanied her to speak to a security guard. The victim filed a report at Pathumwan Police Station.

There are no security cameras inside MRT trains.

After the thread was launched Sunday, it lit up social media and photos of the man have been widely shared. One user claimed she witnessed the incident.

“I insist the victim did not do anything. There was one man in purple shirt who tried to stop the guy. After he beat her, everyone just moved away because he could have carried a weapon.”

The user offered to be a witness if she was asked to.

Drama-addict, a popular drama Facebook page, posted that they had obtained a video of the incident and had arranged for the victim to contact the person who took the video, which remains unpublished.

The incident has led to speculation running wild on social media that the man could be the same person who smacked a teenager with a water bottle at Paragon Cineplex in August.
