Residents warned about fraudsters posing as fake electric bill collectors

The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) issued a warning today after households in several provinces fell victim to forged electricity bills and fake electric bill collectors.

Locals in Kalasin, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, and Roi Et provinces reported that scammers knocked on their doors and presented forged power bills, making the unsuspecting homeowners  pay the amount shown on the paper, said PEA Director Sermsakool Klaikaew on Tuesday.

The organization said the fake electric bills don’t include the name and address of the residents and the barcode is in a different position from the real bill.

Residents have been advised to check the bill a collector shows them and to call the local PEA office if they have any queries, state media reported.
