Chinese tourists shamed by their government for singing national anthem at Don Mueang (VIDEO)

Chinese officials named and shamed four citizens on Saturday over their “uncivilized behavior” as they led their tour group to break into the Chinese national anthem at Don Mueang Airport last week.

The four were travelling with a group from Chongqing, and their flight was scheduled to leave at 5:40 pm on Sept. 4, however, due to heavy rain and plane maintenance work, Orient Thai Airlines delayed the flight till 3 am.

Frustrated over the delay, the four travellers refused to board the plane until their compensation demands were met. Once the airline agreed to their demands, they cheerfully burst into the Chinese national anthem accompanied by hooting and shouting in the departure lounge.

The recorded footage spread on Chinese social media and caught the attention of the China National Tourism Administration who shamed them for displaying “uncivilised behaviour.”

The four “incited other travelers to disrespect public order in the airport, spoke and acted hysterically, seriously harmed the image of Chinese travellers abroad”, the administration said in a statement. Their names will remain on the list for between two and three years.

The Chongqing tourism bureau also blacklisted the four travellers and 29 others who joined in the national anthem. The organization requested all Chinese travel agencies and airlines refuse to provide them with service.

The list, however, doesn’t ban them from traveling abroad, but they are subjected to checks by travel agencies and airlines. The list is public and can be accessed by police, customs and border security agents, banks and others issuing credit.

There have been several cases of Chinese tourists behaving badly in Thailand. One famous example is of a couple who attacked an AirAsia attendant with hot instant noodle soup, Bangkok Post reported.
