EWWW: Bangkok McDonald’s customer finds lizard in soda cup, company denies it

McDonald’s Thailand issued a denial yesterday to the allegation by a customer that he almost swallowed a dead lizard from a McDonald’s cup.

Viral photos showing a tiny rotten lizard next to a McDonald’s beverage cup alarmed many fast food eaters as the photos were shared on Facebook and Pantip forum Monday.

“What shocked me was I sucked in a corpse of an animal through the straw from my McDonald’s cup. When I took it out of my mouth, I almost puked,” Facebook user Champ Chawaphon wrote.

Champ said he bought his food at a drive-thru at McDonald’s Nawamin City Avenue on Monday.

McDonald’s responded yesterday there is no way in hell the lizard came from their kitchen, and the global fast food chain asked champ to send them the lizard so they can inspect it.

“Mcdonald’s insists that the object shown [in viral photos] is definitely not from our food. As a world’s leader in the food industry, McDonald’s operates businesses with QSC&V standards which guarantee quality food along with fast, friendly service and hygiene,” the company said.

It is understood the person who made the complaint was a female friend of Champ.

“There was a customer named Yaovapatsorn who made a complaint via our call center that she found a dead lizard in her beverage cup on Sept. 21 around 5:30pm,” the statement said.

“The shop manager called the customer back right away and requested her to turn in the food with the contaminated object for a meal, but she said she had already given the food to a security guard in her condominium.”

After the company denied the allegations, netizens either condemned McDonald’s for its response or shared their experiences of dead animals in their fast food.

“There’s no way that these animals would not be able to sneak into their kitchen unless they cooked in a sealed room,” one user commented. “McDonald’s could have been slandered in this case but they should not just come out and say it is impossible. Their fryers are outside. No doors. Any animal can run through freely.”
