Natcha on Film: Join Matt Damon on Mars or get a shock with May

NATCHA ON FILM – The movies on show this week are far better than the selection we had last week, but as usual there are some really bad films, like “May Who?”, which is about a girl who unexpectedly electrocutes people. The film “36”, which is only out for a limited time, is definitely worth a look. “The Martian” and “Hotel Transylvania 2” are the best offerings from Hollywood.

May Who?

This has got to be one of the dumbest ideas for a movie plot, but these mainstream Thai films never cease to amaze me.

“May Who?”  is about a girl named May who releases electrical charges whenever she sees her upper-class man crush. She tries to keep her distance from him in case he thinks she is some sort of freak. But the movie seems to revolve around a love triangle between the upper-class man and the guy who is giving her advice on her love life.

I was disappointed with this film because it is a GTH movie and their previous films have been really good. Also, as a side note, this film, which is about a woman who releases electricity, is sponsored by the Metropolitan Electricity Authority. Great stuff.

36

This movie is directed by Ter Nawapol, known for his indie films such as “Mary is Happy, Mary is Happy” and mainstream films like “Freelance.”

This movie was shot in 2012 and is now being re-released.

The film “36” is about two people who have been working in the same film company for two years. One of them decides to move on but the other one realizes when her companion leaves that because her hard drive has been completely wiped, she has no photographs of their time together. This discovery makes her feel like the last couple of years of her life have been completely erased.

This film looks like it could be really enjoyable because it doesn’t seem to be an over the top romantic movie.

Exclusively at House RCA on October 1-3, 5-7

The Martian

Remember the douchebag that tried to screw over Matthew McConaughey when he was on the distant planet in the movie “Interstellar”? Well, now he’s starring in a completely different film but it’s still about space.

“The Martian” is about an astronaut who was left for dead after a fierce storm disrupted his mission to Mars. However, he finds himself stranded on Mars and he tries to survive with the little supplies he has left, while trying to contact Earth to organize a rescue mission. NASA and a team of scientists must work to figure out how to bring him back home.

The film looks decent and the book it originated from was a good read.

Hotel Transylvania 2

I am not ashamed to say that I enjoyed the first Hotel Transylvania but I felt it didn’t really need a sequel.

“Hotel Transylvania 2” is about Dracula and his buddies trying to unleash the inner monster of his half human, half vampire grandson in an attempt to keep his daughter at the hotel. (In the first one, he tries his best to keep her from the outside world.)

I have no expectations for this film because sequels usually tend to suck.
