German tourist killed on Samui by jellyfish

A German tourist was killed by a box jellyfish while night swimming on Koh Samui yesterday.

The 20-year-old, Thies Saskia, suffered stings to both her legs, stomach, back and arms at Lamai beach, said Bophud station police investigator Pol. Maj. Udomsak Thappa.

Her friend, identified as Jiovana Rassi, also a German tourist, was also stung when she entered the water to rescue Thies.

The pair were given primary care by rescue workers of Samui municipal rescue center, and later rushed to Bangkok Samui hospital where Thies later died from her injuries.

All hotel operators have been told to warn their guests about the dangers of swimming in the sea and warning signs have been put up on beaches, reported Thai PBS.
