Into the Haze: Coconuts TV travels to center of Asia’s pollution cloud (VIDEO)

The South of Thailand is the latest area to be hit by the haze from Indonesian forest fires. Grey smoke is clouding the skies above popular tourist islands of Phuket and Koh Samui.

The haze caused five flights carrying people who yearning for beach paradise to return to Bangkok yesterday due to poor visibility.

Officials said that the haze problem is by far the worst this year in Phuket  and that air is classified “unhealthy.”

Haze is caused by deforestation fires in Sumatra and Borneo, which are set to clear rainforest to make space for more palm oil and paper plantations.

In Part 1 of the “Into the Haze” documentary, Coconuts TV traveled through smoky jungles of Sumatra to Pekanbaru, a city reeling from the smoke.
