UN International Film Festival shines spotlight on violence against women

The global plight of women and girls facing violence will be highlighted by a free festival of international award-winning films and documentaries in Bangkok later this month.

The UN Women Office for Asia and The Pacific will bring the first “Bangkok International Film Festival on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls” to SF World this month as they address gender inequality and raise awareness of issues affecting women and girls such as violence, child marriage, ‘honor’ killings and sexual assaults.

During the four days of the festival, nine powerful films will be shown in their original language with English and Thai subtitles, including “Girl Rising” from USA, “ILO ILO” from Singapore, “Girlhood” from France, and “Refugiado” from Argentina.

Panel discussions on issues reflected in the films will be held after the screenings. Tickets are free and can be picked up 30 minutes before the screening time.

NOTE: The screening of “Dukhtar” on the first day will be by invitation only.
