“eBoy,” a group of illustrators famous around the world for creating complex pixel artwork, will make an appearance at a Bangkok mall opening to show off their pixorama for the first time in Thailand.
Their piece “Bangkok Escape,” which will be exhibited tomorrow, was specifically designed for the new mall Central Eastville which they say will reflect the distinctive personality of Thailand’s metropolitan life.
eBoy has taken inspiration from commercial icons like LEGO, television and computer games. The group has worked with giant brands such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, MTV, DKNY, and Adidas, and has become a part of pop culture itself.
The group’s illustrations of pixelated characters will show how city dwellers can still relax, destress, get in touch with nature and oneself amidst the mayhem of an urban space, which is the concept of the mall.
eBoy has also designed ten 8-bit characters to reflect the mall’s ten personalities (well, the personalities it would have if it was human). These figures will stand on the new grounds of the mall.
Artists Kai Vermehr, Steffen Sauerteig and Svend Smital, who call themselves the “Godfathers of pixels,” will make an appearance to discuss and exhibit their work process.
eBoy’s illustrations focus on the lifestyles of various capital cities around the world. Each one takes around 6-8 weeks to complete.
